The Manning River Times, NSW, Australia6 August 1938Eliza Charlotte Minett was mentioned in an article in The Manning River Times, NSW, Australia, on Saturday, 6 August 1938 as follows:
An Eightieth Birthday
Last Saturday was the eightieth birthday of Mrs E C Sheather (relict of the late Mr Benjamin Sheather) who has been a resident of the Manning River District for the whole of her useful life.

A very happy gathering assembled at "Lallawoon", 52 Flett Street, Taree (where Mrs Sheather resides with her youngest son and daughter), to mark the auspicious occasion. Seven of her sons and daughters were present, together with about 40 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Families of the honoured octogenerian from as far away as Melbourne, Wollongong, Sydney and Macksville were represented and numerous loving messages were received from many parts of the State. A beautiful floral bouquet was made and presented to her mother by Mrs W Burns of Sydney. The birthday gifts were varied and numerous, including an armchair which was presented on behalf of the donors by her eldest daughter (Mrs J Lambert, of Taree). A poem, specially written by one of the visitors and expressive of the beautiful life of the guest was read to the gathering by Mrs S R Sheather (Wootton). A beautiful two-decker cake was made and presented by Mrs G Unicomb (Taree). This contained 80 candles, all of which were duly lit and the extinguished by the beloved guest of the evening. She then, with steady hand, cut the cake amidst cheers.

Felicitous speaches were cotributed by both sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters and one great grandson.

A program of games, competitions and other forms of entertainment was most pleasurably carried out in a nicely decorated room of 28 feet length specially arranged for the occasion. All present were delighted to acknowledge the affectionate and beautiful life of their mother, gradmother and great grandmother, and united to congratulate her upon the possession of all her faculties and the enjoyment by her of such wonderful health.

Mrs Sheather Snr recalls her early experiences in this district, when all was densely covered scrub and the roads were merely bush tracks, while the most familiar form of transport was the primitive spring cart and bullock waggon.

Most of the members of her families are now settled in this district and her direct descendants number 84.

A unique and thankful assemblage sat down to a splendid supper and the joyous proceedings concluded with the singing of the Doxology and the National Anthem.4
The Manning River Times, NSW, Australia14 January 1939She was mentioned in an article in The Manning River Times, NSW, Australia, on Saturday, 14 January 1939 as follows:

Mrs E C Sheather of Flett Street, Taree, who is 81 years of age, recently returned from a visit to Melbourne, on which she was accompanied by Mr Murray Voce of Taree. After a 3000 mile trip she came home as if it was nothing, despite her years. She had since gone to Hannam Vale district to see her daughter and from there she went to Port Macquarie, and returned to Taree on Thursday. She is the mother of 11 sons and daughters and many grandchildren.4
an unknown publication23 May 1945She had an obituary appear in an unknown publication on Wednesday, 23 May 1945 as follows:
Mrs E C Sheather
In our last issue we briefly mentioned the fact that Mrs Eliza Charlotte Sheather passed away on Thursday last at the home of her daughter, Miss I Sheather, of Footscray, Victoria. Death followed on a heart attack. The late Mrs Sheather was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs George Minett of Lansdowne, and was born at Bo Bo. She would have celebrated her 87th birthday in July. Her early life was spent at Bo Bo anf Ghinni Creek, and then she married to Mr Benjamin Sheather who selected a property at Lansdowne and they lived there until they moved to Taree about 20 years ago. Mr Sheather passed away about 12 months after coming to Taree. Mrs Sheather continued to live in Taree until six years ago when she went to Footscray to live with her daughter. The late Mrs Sheather had many friendson the Manning. Although most of her interests were centred on her home and family, she was widely known for her kindly, charitable disposition, her readiness to assist friends and neighbours in times of sickness or bereavement, and her cincere attachment to the christian principles which she held so dear. For over 40 years she was an earnest member of the Salvation Army, and took an active interest in the extension of its work. Mrs Sheather was a skilful needlewoman, and was engaged in fancywork and knitting until a few hours before her death. The following children mourn the loss of a loving mother: Messrs Harry Sheather (Macksville); Harold (Hannam Vale); Roy (Wootton); Albert (Longwarry, VIC); Mesdames R Lambert (West Maitland); D W Burns (Sydney); Geo Unicomb (Taree); A J Studman (Hannam Vale); Miss S Sheather (Newcastle); Miss I Sheather (Footscray, VIC). There are 17 grandchildren and 70 great grandchildren. Surviving brothers and sisters are: Messrs Harry and Edgar Minett (Taree); Herbert Minett (Cundletown); Mrs S Stanner (Lansdowne); and Mrs J Stace (Dumaresque Island). Two brothers and two sisters predeceased her, namely, George and Alfred Minett (Lansdowne); Mrs J Reid (Sydney); and Mrs G Cross (Lansdowne). The body was brought to Taree by train and on Saturday afternoon a well attended funeral service was conducted at the Salvation Army Citadel. Headed by the Salvation Army Band, the cortege then proceeded to the Dawson cemetery. The services at the Citadel and graveside were conducted by Adjt W R Dawson, who will conduct a memorial service next Sunday evening. Many beautiful floral tributes were placed on the grave. The funeral arrangements were conducted by Messrs Warne Bros of Footscray and Mr W T Howard at this end.4

the Dungog Chronicle, Dungog, NSW, Australia5 January 1934Jesse Ernest Sheather was mentioned in an article in the Dungog Chronicle, Dungog, NSW, Australia, on Friday, 5 January 1934 as follows:

OBITUARY.

MR. JESSE SHEATHER.

A gloom was cast over the town when the news came to hand of the sudden death of Mr. Jesse Sheather who was on a visit to Forster at the invitation of the Cape Hawke Regatta Club, to officiate as umpire at their annual carnival.

A few days previous to his death he umpired at the Mungo Brush regatta, a position he has filled for a number of years, and appeared to be in his usual health. He then made the trip to Cape Hawke with members of his family, who had a boat competing in the regatta there.

On the afternoon of Friday, 29th he complained of not feeling well, and whilst lying by the fire he passed away suddenly. His end came as a great shock to his relatives and to his many friends. The deceased was held in very high esteem by the sailing people all along the coast. As a young man he was a competitor at different regattas, mainly on the Manning and Macleay rivers. Later in life he has acted as umpire to Cape Hawke, Mungo Brush, George's River, and several other regattas, where his judgement in matters concerning the same commanded the greatest re spect.

Born at Taree 65 years ago he followed the occupation of fisherman practically all his life, working on almost every river in the north, and coming to Port Stephens 24 years ago, where he has resided ever since. His wife predeceased him 11 years ago, and he now leaves a sorrowing family of four sons and five daughters to mourn their loss. The sons are: Stephen Henry, Arthur Benjamin, Everet Albury of Tea Gardens, and Ernest Raymond, of Tanilba; daught- ers, Mrs. W. Phillips and Miss Mona of Tea Gardens, Mrs. Brown, Taylor's Arm; Mrs. Squires, Wootton, and Mrs. Harris, Sydney.

His remains were brought to Tea Gardens for burial, being first taken to St. Andrew's church, thence to the Church of England portion of the Tea Gardens cemetery, the Rev. G. Rooke officiating at the graveside.

Occupation1888George Benjamin Fairhall was a carpenter. George was reputed to have been one of the builders, with his brother Fred, of floodboats servicing the Hunter River around Morpeth in 1888.1
Occupationfrom 1890 to 1915He was a NSW Police Officer who served in the Sydney area. His children were born at Balmain, Turramurra and Randwick, so he probably served in those areas. Due to ill health he retired and returned to live in Morpeth. His nephew Stan suggested in a letter in 1966, that it was believed that George had at one time been kicked in the stomach by a prisoner he was arresting, and his death was partly or wholly caused by a growth resulting from that injury from 1890 to 1915 at Sydney, NSW, Australia.1
